Davis’ first tile project was the fabrication and installation of sun-dried adobe tiles formed on hand-made wood frames at age five, under the instruction of his father, a German science teacher who enjoyed experimenting with indigenous materials. Those original tiles are still intact in the family house in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

His fascination with artistic construction led him to pursue a degree in Architecture at the University of Sao Paulo in 1986. After graduation, Davis went on to practice architecture in Paris, Geneva, London and Sao Paulo, where he met his future wife, Luciana.

Shortly after marrying, Davis and his wife moved to the Washington, DC, area. There Davis started Holland Tile in 1998, a company specializing in technical and artistic talent.

Luciana, Davis and their three small children enjoy living in Rockville, MD, a Washington suburb.
